"In 2012, there were only 4,746 trafficking convictions worldwide. This number seems even more alarming when considering that of the estimated 21 million individuals currently being trafficked, 5.5 million of them are children."

Throughout the strife and humanitarian crisis around her, Wafa Muammar was among the first generation of women to enter the Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) right after its establishment less than 20 years ago. Today, as head of the Palestinian Civil Police Family Protect ion Unit, Lieutenant Colonel Wafa Muammar is the highest-ranking female officer in the police.
