Lucuma, the ice cream of superfoods is derived from a Brazilian fruit, most readily available as a powder!! ingredients in image above. Lucuma: Why do I need another superfood? …because this one tastes like ice cream. In the raw food and health food world, most of our pantries are filled to the brim with jars and bags of mysterious superfoods, herbs, and powders that most people have never even heard of. You use some daily in shakes, brew some into teas, and eat some straight out of the jar to support an innumerable amount of health benefits. If this sounds familiar, then your spouse/partner/roommates/parents/children/pets sincerely flip out and threaten to leave you every time you bring another unpronounceable powder into the house. So why, oh why, would you want to incorporate lucuma into your pantry of excellence? Lucuma (besides being relatively easy to pronounce,) is a superfood that anyone could love because (no lie!) it tastes like ice cream. This Peruvian fruit has a sweet, slightly maple flavor, reminiscent of our favorite (non-dairy) frozen treat. Kids in Peru prefer lucuma ice cream over any other flavor (even chocolate)!! Ok, you get it, this is the ice cream of superfoods. Why would you want it, though? Does it have any health benefits? How would you even use it? Yes, yes, a hundred times yes! You can have your ice cream AND eat it, too! Raw vegan lucuma, like most superfoods, is packed with tons of health benefits. Most noteably, lucuma is high in beta-carotene, vitamin B-3, niacin, and iron. It also has a number of trace elements, making the benefits of this sweet little fruit as awesome as its taste. Unless you’re planning on traveling to Peru, you’ll most likely find lucuma in powdered form like we sell on our website. If you haven’t guessed yet, the best way to use lucuma is to add it to ice creams (raw or otherwise) and (nut-)milkshakes, or whenever you require a bit of sweetness and creamy goodness! Adding lucuma to frozen treats, though, is by far the tastiest way to enjoy it, and creates the best shakes around! See OneLuckyDuck for their Lucuma in powdered form
