Niloufer Farhat Begum Sahiba (b January 4, 1916) was one of the last princesses of the Ottoman Empire. She was married to the second son of the last Nizam of Hyderabad in India Moazzam Jah. This could as well be painted portraiture from the early twentieth century when the influence of European (especially English) painting styles started becoming evident in Indian art, helped greatly by the acclaimed work of Raja Ravi Verma. The dusky complexion, the kohl smudged eyes and the glorious combination of tastefully mismatched jewellery and apparel all speak of a liberal mind and eclectic sensibilities that are as vital today as they were a hundred years ago.
