Harrisville State Park is located just outside the town of Harrisville in the northeastern quadrant of Michigan right along Lake Huron. It is a nice little state park with a campground, day-use area, short nature trail, and access to the lake. Harrisville State Park is located just outside the town of Harrisville in the northeastern quadrant of Michigan right along Lake Huron. It is a nice little state park with a campground, day-use area, short nature trail, and access to the lake. Plus, just up the road is a bonus: the Sturgeon Point Lighthouse (also technically a state park).

Tawas Point State Park, near the town of Tawas, is at the end of a sandy peninsula that separates Tawas Bay from Lake Huron. It is located about an hour from the tri-city area of Saginaw-Bay City-Midland and about three hours north of Detroit. In Michigan, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources offers volunteer stewardship days when folks can go out with DNR staff and help eliminate invasive plants. We recently attended one of these events at Waterloo State Recreation Area to help rid some prairie land of Spotted Knapweed.
