Don'tcha just loooove my sparkly silver toe-ring? I bought them in Jodhpur, but you can go to the silver market at Dariba in Old Delhi and easily find it!! They are sold in pairs, by the way. Other drool-worthy things: Crinkled indigo-dyed skirt from Fab India, and tribal silver anklet from Jodhpur for that earthy grounded feel. Click on photo for full story.

Excuse me while I rave about Tulsi at Santushti for a little while...sigh...what a delight this shop is. Neeru Kumar's exquisite design sensibility, combined with her grasp of colour and texture allows you to wear beautiful Indian fabrics, but in a style that works anywhere in the world. If nothing else, check out the stoles and scarves! http://neerukumar.com/main.htm

(*) The little shop at the Crafts Museum is a real delight. Things were displayed all higgedly-piggedly when I went, which is *exactly* how I like it. Fixed prices, authentic crafts, and no one hounded me to buy anything. Perfect! The Crafts Museum itself is great to visit and the shop is the icing on the cake. http://delhimagic.blogspot.in/2008/07/speaking-of-chariots.html

Lotus Eaters, Santushti Shopping Complex. They have silver jewellery, sort of half-traditional, half-contemporary. Some gold as well. I bought a green bead necklace which I really liked. Like most things in Santushti, this is not a place to go if you are on a tight budget. See other stuff from Santushti as well in the link below. (*) Kamala is run by the Crafts Council of India. They're at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, on Baba Kharak Singh Mark, right near Connaught Place. I love the fabrics. They also sell home decor. I bought traditional paintings from here for our office. Fixed prices, going towards a good cause, some outstanding stuff on offer. Don't even think twice - just go. 10am-7pm closed Sundays

Lots of people ask me about buying beads, so I thought I'd post a photo from Kinari Bazaar. These are gold and silver beads, some round, some flat like buttons. Useful if you're decorating a wedding venue or even a restaurant. Beads also come in lots of other colours, usually strung together in long ropes. Kinari Bazaar is truly amazing. I'll see what else I can find from my photos to give you a glimpse of things on offer. It's useful to be able to "see" things online before you visit.

Kavita Bhartia's Ogaan at Hauz Khas is a good place to find a wide range of Indian designers - both established names and newcomers. This is their flagship store; with stylish displays (almost art!) of Indian and fusion clothing, accessories and jewelry. Check timings etc here: http://www.ogaan.com/

(*) If you've heard horror stories about paying over-inflated tourist prices, head to the government-run CCIE at Janpath for four storeys of fixed price shopping. The Central Cottage Industries Emporium is in a building called Jawahar Vyapar Bhavan on Janpath. Their logo is a terracotta horse, so if your taxi driver takes you to a fake similar sounding name, you'll know how to spot it!

Dariba in Old Delhi is a great market for buying silver. Designs are both Indian and Western. Prices are usually by weight, and if you ask around in a few shops you will get the day's rate for silver which is being applied.
