Royal engagement rings
On the first of April a diamond ring was stolen in Paris from prince Napoleon and his fiancée, comtesse Olympia d’ Arco-Zinneberg. Engagement ring which emperor gave to wife Josephine goes up for auction. The ring comprises two tear-shaped gems, one diamond and one sapphire, set onto a gold band. It was in the collection of the emperor’s grandson, Napoleon III, and wife Empress Eugénie, and then their descendants. The ring dates back to 1796.
Princess Grace first engagement ring. Prince Rainier III of Monaco originally proposed to Grace Kelly with a Cartier eternity band of rubies and diamonds. When he saw other leading ladies in Hollywood were flashing bigger rings, he quickly ordered this 10.5-carat emerald-cut diamond flanked by two baguettes, also from Cartier.
