Brahma is considered to be the creator of the universe. In many branches of Hinduism, he is not as revered as Vishnu or Shiva, and has the fewest temples dedicated to him. He is frequently depicted with four heads, symbolizing the four cardinal directions, and four arms, holding prayer beads or a scepter, a bow, a water bowl, and the Vedas. His consort is Sarasvati, who recieves independent worship. He is generally shown riding a swan or a male goose.
