Plant on east side. Check out the tall shrubery for garden/privacy screen: small boxwoods, dame's rocket, lambs ear, bellflower, penstemon, lakspur, yarrow, sedum, cranesbill (which smells heavenly), giant delphiniums. Zones 5 and above unless you wish to replant boxwoods annually.
