Westminster Theme Thursday: the Bagration Parure
This splendid parure originally belonged to Princess Ekatarina Pavlovna Bagration, (née Skavronskaia), wife of Prince Pyotr Ivanovic Bagration,a descendant of the Brigation Kings of Georgia. Prince Pyort was a general in the Russian army who died defending his country from Napoleón at the battle of Borodino.
Empress Marie Louise of France's Emerald Diadem. This tiara was part of a parure made in 1810 by Francois Regnault for Nitot. In the 1950s Van Cleef & Arpels removed the emeralds and replaced them with turquoises. The emeralds were set into other pieces of jewellery and sold separately. The Empress was the second of Napoleon Bonaparte's wives.
