NTK Enlightenment part 2: The Age of Enlightenment refers to the 18th century in European philosophy, and is often thought of as part of a larger period which includes the Age of Reason. The term also more specifically refers to a historical intellectual movement, "The Enlightenment." This movement advocated rationality as a means to establish an authoritative system of ethics, aesthetics, and knowledge.

NTK Enlightenment- This painting is of Denis Diderot, a French philosopher and writer. In Diderot's Encyclopedia he says "The good of the people must be the great purpose of government... And the greatest good of the people is liberty." Many philosophers at the time believed in religious toleration, freedom of speech and of the press and the rights to private property. Above all the philosophers believed that enlightened rulers must obey the laws and enforce them fairly for all subjects.

NTK: 18th Century European Music. The two major types of music were Baroque (earlier type of music) and Classical. Baroque, a term originally applied to the art and architecture of the time, means overly elaborate or ornate. Baroque music was filled with musical flourishes either through improvisation or by composer’s design. Classical was much simpler and had more balanced melodies with symmetrical structures

Thesis Enlightenment and art- During the time of Enlightenment people started to believe in Deism(Deism was the belief in a creator who does not intervene in the universe). Before the Enlightenment art was strictly religious and very serious. Like a painting of Adam and Eve. Art changed during the Enlightenment because now it was very graceful and charming. Art could also be anything like a picnic or women and men dancing.
