Juan Romero was 17 years old and working as a busboy at the Ambassador Hotel in L.A. when Senator Robert Kennedy was staying at the hotel during his 1968 presidential run. On June 5th, Kennedy gave his victory speech for winning the California primary. Romero pressed through the crowd to shake the senator’s hand. As the two were shaking hands the sounds of gunshots rang out and Kennedy fell to the floor. Romero knelt down and Kennedy asked him, “Is everybody safe, OK? Photo by Boris Yaro.
