Sir Gary Sobers Kt AO OCC of Barbados, and Captain of the West Indies Test team between 1964 and 1974. Knighted for service to cricket by HM Queen Elizabeth II in 1975, he is considered "... the most all-round All-Rounder ..." who ever played the game, and one of the greatest players of all time.
FIVE IN A ROW: On this day (January 3) in 1949, Everton Weekes of West Indies set a world record that will probably stand forever. With his 101 in Calcutta, Weekes completed a sequence of ton in five consecutive innings of a Test. It might have been six had he not been run out for 90 in his next Test innings, in Madras. Oh, and six years later, in New Zealand, Weekes reeled off three back-to-back hundreds against New Zealand. Whaddaplaya!
