THE CLASS APART IN CONTEMPORARY LIFESTYLE

There is a growing craze in architecture for the contemporary style both on the outside and the inside of a home. Though maintaining the equanimity in contemporary style for the interior of an Indian home is always challenging. At time the style has to be tweaked to accommodate the aspirations of the home makers. This was not the case with Mr. Chakrabani, the proud owner of a sprawling 1850 sq.ft Villa apartment in the Prestige Bella Vista project at Iyappanthangal, Chennai.

The girl’s bedroom is an all white affair with a touch of grey. The highlight is the windblown tree on the glass doors of the wardrobe. The flowing full length curtains add drama to the room making it cozy and charming. Being a young lady’s room naturally a full length mirror in an ornate silver frame and some well placed wall stands make up the dressing area. The large polka dotted window curtains in green and grey afford the finest contrast.

The kitchen leads to a longish corridor and it is flanked by the three bedrooms. The master bedroom has a green and off-white theme with bright green wallpaper covering the entire wall. The balcony attached to this bedroom is accessible through a bay window and is done in red tiles giving the space a real contrast but making it more inviting for a sit-out anytime of the day or night. The custom made queen size bed has a teak finished headboard with rich upholstery work at the head side.

A glass door from the dining area leads to the spacious and heavenly kitchen. The sheer span of the granite counter top and the copious amount of storage shelves and drawers in this modular kitchen bears testimony to the design skills of the D5 team. The ultra-modern kitchen even has a designer cabinet for the refrigerator.

Another interesting aspect as you entered the home was the special ‘jallie’ work that demarcated the dining area from the living area and also other interior spaces on one side of the living space. The ‘jallies’ were striking in that they had a laser cut flaring sun in wood

The kitchen is in mahogany and white finish. There is a blackboard for noting the menu and recipes and a love seat under an array of interesting wall decor.

The apartment had all the constituents of a larger home, with living, dining, kitchen and three large bedrooms. The highlight though was the strikingly panoramic balconies attached to the living space and the master bedroom.

The balcony attached to the living room was a real blessing with its panoramic view and acted like a gateway for the gush of fresh breeze. The balcony had glass parapet for unobtrusive view from the living room. The balcony floor had lush green artificial grass on it and had a couple of garden seats too for a relaxing time.

When the D5 team met Mr. Chakrabani and family, they were open to the suggestions and concepts from D5 team. Though not deliberate their mindset was tuned to the contemporary style and this came out clearly in the pre-design meetings

The main door of the apartment opened into a spacious living area. This space was converted to a bright and brilliant area with the addition of plush designer seating in off-white matching the basic pastel colours of the wall. The entertainment unit in teakwood finish is interesting with back lighting and a square display unit
