Old Gorhambury House, St Albans.
The ruined Elizabethan mansion was built partly from bricks from the old Abbey buildings at St Albans, originally taken from the nearby ruins of Roman Verulanium. The house was once the residence of Sir Francis Bacon.

At the bottom of the road cars are parked and people are walking on the pavement. After the photograph was taken, a house was built on the site on the left hand side, where a fence can be seen.
