Bog cotton (cotton grass) ✿ڿڰۣ is a plant that is uniquely symbolic of the Irish landscape. It is often found on peat or acidic soils, in open wetland, heath or moorland such as the mires of Northern Ireland.

Sphagnum capillifolium: forms hummocks in mires. Sphagnum release H ions which acidify habitat. Resistant to decomposition due to phenolic compounds
