The Valley of the Kings in Egypt was a popular tourist destination in ancient times. There are over 2100 instances of graffiti done by ancient tourist from as far back as 278 B. in languages such as Greek, Latin, Phoenician, Cyproit, Lycian and Coptic.
Despite being opposed by Hindu Pandits, Swami Vivekananda used to serve tea at his monastery.
