Cheerios brand breakfast cereal is made by General mills and was first introduced on May 1, 1941 under the original name CherriOats. Initial shipments of the cereal to 6 test markets began on May 2, 1941 . The name was changed to Cheerios in 1946 because of a trade name dispute with Quaker Oats.

I love to stare at these beautiful vintage cereal boxes, They looked way better 60 years ago! Nowadays cereal boxes look too polished and too sneaky. Also, I prefer Tony the Tiger in its early days…

Though I'm primarily a fan of the 1970's Super Sugar Crisp cereal boxes, I've allowed that to expand to the whole history of Sugar Crisp cereal. This latest acquisition represents one of the older box examples in my collection, and a style I don't see too often. Not in top condition by any means, it's still a fine example of a fun box.

I'm sure companies wouldn't be using the word 'gay' in this context today!
