On this day, 131 years ago, Abul Kalaam Ghulam Muhiyuddin Ahmed, later known as Maulana Azad, was born. An Islamic scholar, the Maulana plunged into politics during the Khilafat Movement. As Muslim separatist movement gained foothold, he stood for cultural pluralism and later called the partition of India as "one of the greatest frauds on the people”.
