Prepares the canvas: Wetting the canvas allows water to absorb into the fibers, making it ready to accept a water-based acrylic primer.
Keeps paint workable: Wetting the canvas keeps the front wet enough to make acrylic paints workable for longer.
Blends paints: Wetting the canvas makes it easier to blend paints.
Prevents paint from soaking through: Wetting the back of the canvas prevents paint from soaking through to the other side.
