Amniotic Fluid
What is Amniotic Fluid and why is it so important?
Amniotic Fluid is the fluid that surrounds and protects a baby in the womb. It acts as a protective cushion from any trauma that occurs to the maternal abdomen. It also provides a cushion for the umbilical cord from compression. The amniotic fluid also has antibacterial properties to protect the baby from infection.

Have you heard of polyhydramnios? It's a condition where there is too much amniotic fluid in the uterus during pregnancy, and usually occurs in the second half of pregnancy, but can occur as early as 16 weeks into pregnancy. Polyhydramnios, while not common, (it only affect 1% of pregnancies) can bring challenges such as abdominal discomfort, difficulty breathing, and even preterm labor in an extreme case.

Amniotic Fluid Around Baby • Hypnobabies
𝐀𝐦𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬/𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐢𝐝 Amniotic fluid cushions the baby when contractions/birthing waves begin. This helps baby handle waves easier and you to have more comfort at the cervix. 🙂 The amniotic fluid helps: The developing baby to move in the womb, which allows for proper bone growth. The lungs to develop properly. Prevents pressure on the umbilical cord. Keep a constant temperature around the baby, protecting from heat loss and much more.
