Ashanti Empire - Kente Cloth
Kente is composed of narrow strips of hand weaved material sewn together to form a rectangle. Kente cloth was a way to identify a person’s origin and status. In Ancient times the royal family could only utilize gold colored Kente. However, to this day no Ashanti will wear the royal cloth in the Asantehene’s presence. The King is always expected to have the best collection of Kente and Adinkra in the world, from which to choose.

The Ashanti Wars were a series of conflicts between the Ashanti Empire in present-day Ghana and the British Empire during the 19th century. The wars were primarily driven by British efforts to expand their influence in West Africa and control the lucrative trade in gold and other resources. The Ashanti resisted fiercely, utilizing their well-organized military and strategic acumen. Despite their efforts, the British ultimately defeated the Ashanti, leading to the annexation of Ashanti territory and the incorporation of the Ashanti Kingdom into the British Gold Coast colony by the early 20th century. #digitalartist Asante Kingdom, African Kingdom, African Kingdoms, Kingdom Of Ghana, Ashanti Empire, African Empires, Black Power Art, Panther Art, Afrique Art
