the yarn is red and ready to be dyed

I don't quite remember when I first became aware of avocado dye. I think when I was searching for food colouring dyeing I accidentally came across it. In any case, dusty rose/salmon is one of my favourite colours, I like making do, and I like experimenting so I had to give it a go. I tried avocado dyeing before with a lukewarm result. I used 100g 100% pure lambswool yarn, mordanted it with about a teaspoon of alum overnight, and dyed for 2 days. I think I used pits and skins from about 7…

For anyone new to natural dyeing there are a few ingredients that are easy to start with, avocados are one of them. Its quite incredible that both the stones and skins yield the most beautiful range of pinks, from soft blush to deep pink. #kathryndavey #natural #dyeing #fabric #linen #apron #wool #socks

🥑Avocados are perhaps the most surprising natural dye stuff, who would have thought you could obtain such beautiful peachy pinks from this fruit. Not only are the colours beautiful, I have found them to be very durable, possibly due to their high tannin content. I have also noticed that you can achieve especially lovely shades when using soy milk as a binder to pretreat your fibers. 🥑 I wonder if any of you would like to share your experiences with avocado dye in the comments? 👇🏽Do you…
