Buru Rainforests, Sulawesi and Maluku Islands, Indonesia, cover an area of 1,000 ha. The region is covered in dense tropical evergreen and semi-evergreen forests. Tall, straight dipterocarp trees dominate such as the hopea, shorea, and vatica. Montane forests occur above 800 to 900m in altitude and many of the rare and endemic birds are confined to these cool and rainy mountain forests.
