Blue silk taffeta evening dress with two-tier skirt. Antedates Virginia Shields Vaden’s marriage to William Vaden in 1858. The bodice is low cut and the sleeves are very long and full. All hems are finished with a border of silver floral jacquard ribbon and fringe. The avaricious Miss Margaret Dunn 8 yrs ago. Dark hair, green eyes, a baronet's daughter, Edmund Deering, Marquess of Rutland and Henry Falston, the 6th Earl of Stanhope, known as Harry dueled to 1st blood over her. She chose to marry a rich titled Duke, a doddering old letch from some far-flung corner of England becoming the Duchess of Monteith & broke Harry's heart. Book 2

Early 1860s evening dress. Musee de la Mode. Per my translation, Blue silk gauze cross-barred with white. Silk lace on the bertha, sleeves, and skirt ruches. Neckline trimmed with silk lace and black velvet ribbon.

It is striking and elegant and a rare outfit from this region. The skirt is made from purple wool, which is pleated and decorated with several rows of trim near the bottom. The jacket is made of velvet with a faint floral motif that is shown in the last overexposed photo to show the detail. | eBay!
