Sometimes you just have to wait for the right light. I spent all day this past Thursday downtown Chicago, shooting 'Chicago experience' photos. Hot, summer day. Harsh sunlight conditions. Concentrated around the Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum and Soldier Field (where the Bears play football). This means a lot of walking, and a lot of different photo opportunities.
