At the start of the year I committed to a daily practice of meditative stitching where I wanted to explore on one stitch technique per month and spend 30 minutes a day focusing on that technique and meditate. I’m here to tell you, that daily practice fell apart for me in February. I was unsuccessful

When I think of crafts, I picture these weird-looking items floating on Etsy like eternal shipwrecks that rise to the surface every time you genuinely need something. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with pursuing your hobby, but it’s a whole different story if you’re trying to make money out of something you wouldn’t buy yourself. Hence, there’s an entire craft-shaming movement that humorously mocks such instances.

Contemporary Embroidery

This 12" finished embroidery hoop was hand stitched with cotton and metallic floss, and embellished with various beads on black canvas cloth by Eden Ingle of Starling Co. As a full-time wedding photographer, I started making these beaded embroideries as another creative outlet that didn't involve computers or cameras... just me with my hoop, thread, and beads (and maybeee a glass of wine) to help unwind at the end of the day.
