Dal Dhokli is a traditional Gujarati dish that combines lentils (dal) with freshly made wheat flour dhokli which is similar to freshly rolled out pasta. It’s a hearty meal where bite-sized pieces of spiced wheat flour dough sheets are simmered in a tangy & slightly sweet lentil soup flavored with various spices. It’s often garnished with cilantro, onions, tomatoes, lemon juice and served hot, making it a comforting and wholesome dish. It’s easy to think of this as the Indian version of pasta, but it’s actually a traditional Gujarati preparation that is fully packed with flavor and just happens to be vegan.

Dal Dhokli is a comfort food, This is my mom’s recipe and one of my absolute fav. I am not a big fan of cluster beans, it tastes so amazing in Dhokli. But what surprises me is that even though it doesn’t have any dal in it still tastes so so good and that tanginess from the Tamarind is just wow.
