a black and white drawing of trees in the woods

Aga Kubish ARE || Art Gallery & Studio on Instagram: "I’m working on a new project using the dry point technique on an acrylic board. 🤭 I can show you the details of my test print. The drawing is not finished yet, but since this is a very new field for me, I needed to see how my textures look after printing. This intaglio technique gives me a lot of fun with details and really tiny fine lines. I can easily crosshatch and use shading. I plan to finish it this week, but this time I won’t open…

a person is using a drill to draw a dog's face on a piece of metal

Diana Parkhouse - Paper Artist Person on Instagram: "This is a demonstration that for intaglio etching you don't need a press. You don't need a washing mangle. You don't need a cold press laminator. You don't need an x cut express. You don't need new sheet metals. You don't need chemicals. You don't need drypoint perspex. You don't need etching paper to print on. You can use some or all those things, yes! But you could also use an aluminium drink can, an old craft knife blade (though I do…

black and white drawing of wildflowers on paper

Dry point is the most direct form of intaglio. The artist simply takes a sharp point and uses it to scratch into the metal plate to create the image. There is quite a variety of tools that can be used for this. Here's a video of Wayne Thiebaud doing that at Crown Point Press. As you watch it pay attention to the different ways he marks the plate, from gentle to rough and in-between. He even seems to be scratching into it with a pocket knife at one point. Here's Thiebaud's print. Notice the…
