Sen. John F. Kennedy's motorcade rolls through downtown West Dundee on Route 72 during an Oct. 25, 1960, campaign stop in the Fox Valley. After his stop in Carpentersville, Kennedy's motorcade moved on to Elgin.

On Oct. 25, 1960, two weeks before the election, Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kennedy campaigned in several suburban Chicago communities. He kicked off the motorcade in Des Plaines and visited Barrington, Lake Zurich, Wheeling, Carpentersville, Elgin, St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia, Aurora and Elmhurst. "That is what we are going to do; we are campaigning where the Republicans live," he said.
