This is an example of a visually pleasing nurses’ station. The nurses station should have adequate space/computers for everyone to be able to work. This includes other members of the interdisciplinary health team. This work station should be a space for physicians, nurses, and techs to work so that communication can occur effectively with members of the team in close physical proximity. It is no longer just a “nurses’ station” but the interdisciplinary health team station.

Inside Nurse Station

This is a nurse’s station where two nurses usually share the workspace. There are four units with four nurses station in this facility and the design set up on every unit is the same. The problem presented in this picture is the location of the printer. The printer is in a corner, which is not so easy to access without bothering/interrupting the nurse who works on the left side.

3. Having the workstations face each side of the hallways would allow the nurses to face their patient rooms while at their work stations. This gives the nurses a better view and closer proximity to their patients like in this example photo.

Neonatal intensive care unit renovations are nearly complete at Children’s Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha, Neb. The new design by LEO A DALY will increase family privacy, provide more caregiver space in the patient rooms and streamline communication for staff.
