The eyelash pit viper is a small arboreal snake named for the modified scales above its eyes that resemble lashes. It is a sit and wait predator that uses its heat sensing glands, or pits, behind each nostril to detect when prey is near. When it strikes, it injects a hemotoxic venom into its prey which starts to degenerate the body tissue aiding the snake in digesting the animal.
