CATALHÖYÜK - ANATOLIA (Turkey) - 7500 /  5700 BC : very large Neolithic settlement considered as the first city in the world populated by aproximatively 7 000 people. No footpaths were used between the dwellings : the inhabitants lived in brick houses that were built close together, only accessible by the ceilings  which also served as the only source of ventilation.
