Hello again! My name is Liga Liepina, and I am an equine photographer in Iceland. You might have seen some of my work in my previous post. What I do is photograph Icelandic horses in the rough, yet stunning Icelandic nature, and I wanted to share with you some of my newest work.

When Viking settlers first came to the island of Iceland in the late 800s, they must have been in awe of its staggering beauty. Huge glaciers, ancient volcanoes, roaring waterfalls and lush forests greeted them, who brought their animals with them to their new home. Among the livestock that made the trip from Norway were horses—ancestors of today’s Norwegian Fjord. Other settlers from the British Isles soon followed, bringing ponies carrying Shetland, Exmoor and Highland Pony blood.

A couple of years ago I happened to work on a filming set with a group of horse handlers. Of course, I had seen horses before and even been in close contact with them, but it was these three weeks of working together that made me fully appreciate how amazing these animals are.

My name is Liga Liepina and I spend all my free time doing equine photography. Born in Latvia, I moved to Iceland at the age of 14. I have been obsessed with horses since I can remember myself. It started with collecting all possible newspaper clippings, posters, and calendars of horses and once I had my first-ever riding lesson, I knew horses were going to be a huge part of my life.
