Welcome to Miyako Island in Okinawa Prefecture! Far away from the city nights and neon lights, you can dive coral reefs, snorkel with local sea turtles or try your hand at golf, cycling or fishing. Or feel free to just relax and come back fully refreshed. 🏖️🌊📸 Photo by @mayumi_0712 #VisitJapanAU #Outdoor #JapanRevealed #MiyakoIsland #Miyakojima #Okinawa

Welcome to San'in! This is Matsue, Shimane. Miho Shrine is a quiet little collection of traditional buildings quite literally across the street from a small bay on the Sea of Japan. Nestled at the center of a fishing village, it's no surprise that this shrine is dedicated to the god Ebisu, a jolly god known to carry a fishing rod and grant luck to Japan's fishermen. Perpendicular to the shrine is Aoishi-datami Road, a traditional little alley that looks like a scene from a historical film. In Japan, Marine Day celebrates the island nation’s longstanding relationship with the sea. The ocean provides a rich bounty of food and trade, but also looms as a powerful force that may bring forth terrible destruction. Both these life-giving and life-threatening aspects are indelibly etched in Japan’s collective memory, and present a recurring theme in the country’s history, culture, and art.
