It has smooth, light grey bark which becomes deeply furrowed with maturity. The leaves are alternate and serrated, dark green in colour with a silvery-white underside giving a shimmering effect. It produces yellowish-white, fragrant clusters of flowers in Summer, followed by small, oval fruits and in Autumn. The foliage turns yellow before falling.
