Award-winning Saxifraga x urbium (London Pride) is an evergreen perennial forming a dense, spreading carpet of rosettes of spoon-shaped, long-stalked leaves with scalloped margins. In late spring to early summer, a profusion of pink-flushed white flowers borne in airy panicles, rise on 12 in. (30 cm) stems above the foliage and create a ravishing display. although it does spread; it's a slow spreader, and if it goes too far, it is easy to pull the errant rosettes.

These were tough little things to photograph, they're tiny, about 8mm across, all bunched together, and on a stalk that kept blowing around in the wind. I ended up lying on the ground and waiting for the lulls in the wind to get this shot.

Saxifraga x urbium "London Pride". This one's growing on accumulated soil on top of concrete pavers in part shade. Very drought tolerant. Evergreen. Great Spring flowers.
