Jan Van Eyck
This Byzantine art makes me laugh. It's funny how unproportional the woman and baby are. The baby looks like a man and the completion of their skin is simple and is no where near as advanced as todays art. This art makes me appreciate the art we have today.

The Christ Child makes the sign of a blessing with his fingers. The Madonna is dressed in red with a dark blue cloak and wears a jewel-encrusted crown in the Valencian style.
Madonna and Child by Gherardo Starnina, circa 1360-1413
Gherardo Starnina was a very important painter in Florence during his lifetime, but unfortunately we know very little about him. We do know that he spent time in Toledo and Valencia, Spain, involved in fresco and panel painting and was influenced by the Late Gothic style he witnessed there. This experience may have given his work its harmonious elegance. This Madonna’s crown has a Valencian style no doubt also inspired by his Spanish sojourn.
