The Mirabal Sisters "Las Mariposas" inspired the U.N.'s International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Description A set of portraits I did based off Julia Alvarez's book "In the Time of the Butterflies" for a school project.

1.Chapter one foreshadows the girls and what roles they are going to play in the story. Step 5: Maria Teresa was the less "sane" of the Mirabal sisters. Her innocence along with her curiosity places her in a position where she is mentally knowledgeable about certain things. The Mirabal sister's museum is the symbol. Usually a museum represents history, learning, and facts. However, in this story the museum represents the memories Dede still has with her sisters, even though they aren't alive anymore.
