The art room echoed "Oh look, green!" and "I just made orange!" as first graders overlapped primary colors to make a background for their Mouse Paint mice. I used Ellen Stoll Walsh's Mouse Paint to reinforce the concept of primary and secondary colors. Students started with yellow cake tempera and painted about one third of their background, starting at the corner and brushing towards the center. Awesome Elephants! Kindergarten students in Ms. Kerwick's class enjoyed creating fun elephants. They combined art and movement by acting out different body parts of an elephant. Also, they enjoyed learning to make the color grey by mixing black and white. This project was a great way to practice drawing and cutting skills. The students used a sponge brush to paint the elephants. Each student created a pattern at the top and bottom of the paper.
