Chief Constable Ian Hopkins and Deputy Chief Constable Ian Pilling look on as the new recruits take the Oath of Attestation to become police officers. PC Mohammed Shafiq on duty in the mid 1970s. Known to all as Mo, he joined Lancashire Constabulary on February 8, 1973. He joined Greater Manchester Police as part of the amalgamation of forces in 1974. He was the first non-white officer to serve in either Force.
