[EGYPT 29986] ’Pharaoh in Ramses II Temple at Abydos.’ A beautifully dressed Ramses II receives the Breath of Life from a falcon-headed god. The god is just outside the frame of the picture but we can see his hand with a small “ankh” sign approaching the nose of the pharaoh. This is a painted wood shabti of an Ancient Egyptian priest named Bakenkhonsou held in the Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon, France. On the shroud, the hieroglyphic inscription of eight painted lines gives the name of the deceased and his priestly title. He was an important figure of the Ramses era. Born at the end of the 18th dynasty, he began his career in the clergy of Amun then reached the prestigious rank of First Prophet of Amun under Ramses II; ca. 1250-1220 (?)
