…of children, unearthed on property where Kamloop’s indigenous residential school once stood. A reminder that the truths in truth and reconciliation between Canada and First Nations must be faced for healing to happen

This is a picture an residential school in the 1920s. These kids, coming from cultures that are anything but Christian. The goal at these schools was to strip the kids of their cultures and make them give into Anglo Conformity. The kids here were physically and sexually abused and punished for speaking their own language. Kids were sent from the ages of 7 to 15 and didn't get the opportunity to visit their families. Type of Source: Photograph Origin: 1920's This is a photograph of a residential school in Canada from the 1920's. Aboriginal children had been forced from their native homes, and stripped of their identies in the schools. They were given 'English names', given 'proper' clothing, and forced to speak English. They weren't allowed to speak their native tongue and were punished if they did. This was generally a dark period in Canada's history, where Canadians etched a huge scar in native culture.
