1954 | The story of Elvis Presley's discovery begins with a shy, 18-year-old Elvis entering a recording studio in 1953 to cut two songs on an acetate disk at a cost of four dollars. The Memphis Recording Service was owned and operated by Sam Phillips, who had been recording rhythm-and-blues artists since 1950. Like Elvis, Sam Phillips was passionate about music, especially the music “that white people liked but weren’t sure whether they ought to or not.”

One more night in Memphis and we took another look at Beale Street. This time a lot less congested and a lot less intimidating. Altogether a much better experience. Ate in the Hard Rock Cafe. I know not very adventurous but it was decent. And a stroll along Beale Street led to BB Kings where we were thoroughly entertained by one Patrick Dodd. Amaze-ing!!!
