Most of the mechanical concrete properties are characterised solely via the compressive strength class. Eurocode 2 (EC2)(1) contains rules for the design values of creep and stiffness parameters based mainly on strength. Concrete modulus of elasticity is seldom registered experimentally and Scandinavian research shows that the EC2 rules are overestimating the design modulus significantly. Claus Vestergaard Nielsen of Rambøll Danmark reports.
