During the Lyndon Johnson administration, Eartha Kitt made her feelings well known on the Vietnam War while at a luncheon in the White House, stating "You send the best of the country off to be shot and maimed. No wonder the kids rebel and take pot." After which she was basically banned from performing in the United States so she had to travel overseas for work. Eartha did not return to the States until 1974 with a concert in Carnegie Hall.
