British sweet rationing 1940-1953 - Make your own sweets (candy) from wartime recipes.
At the start of WW2 foodstuff, clothing and many items were rationed. Sweets gave a feeling of normality as the population suffered nightly bombing raids and widespread deaths.
Bonfire Night Fireworks.....my nan used to take us to a shop to pick out fireworks and we always had a big bonfire in the garden, we used to rush home from school and run down my nans to bring back lots of stuff to burn on our bonfire. Mum always made tomato soup and sausages.
