Ms. Esther Jones, known by her stage name, "Baby Esther," was an African-American singer and entertainer of the late 1920s. She performed regularly at The Cotton Club in Harlem. Her singing trademark was..."boop oop a doop, "in a babyish voice. Singer Helen Kane purportedly saw Baby's act in 1928 and "adopted" her style in her hit song "I Wanna Be Loved By You." Ms. Jones' singing style, along with Ms. Kane's hit song, went on to become the inspiration for Max Fleischer's "BETTY BOOP." A Crinkle crankle wall in Bramfield, Suffolk. The crinkle crankle wall economizes on bricks, despite its sinuous configuration, because it can be made just one brick thin. If a wall this thin were to be made in a straight line, without buttresses, it would easily topple over. The alternate convex & concave curves in the wall provide stability & help it to resist lateral forces. The term is thought to come from Old English meaning zig-zag. Suffolk has twice as many as in the rest of the country. Sightseeing London, Parks, All Nature, Exterior, English Countryside, British Isles, Land Scape, Great Britain, Places To See

Rigel, a big black Newfoundland dog, belonging to First Officer Murdoch, saved the passengers in Life Boat #4. They were drifting in front of the Carpathia, too weak to call out. The dog had swam in the icy water for three hours, probably looking for his master. He was swimming in front of the lifeboat and alerted the Carpathia crew by barking. The boat might not have been rescued if not for the sharp barking of Rigel. Rms Titanic, Titanic History, Titanic Photos, Titanic Sinking, Southampton, Doggy, Dog Cat, Terra Nova, White Star

Carpathia taking on Titanic survivors. The rope ladder is accurate, but most survivors only had to climb as far as the gangway. Many, with frozen hands, couldn't make it even that far and were hoisted on luggage nets. The children, who could have dropped through the mesh, were put in mailbags. The cathedral in the Spanish city of Salamanca was constructed in 1102, and is therefore one of the oldest such constructions in the world. It features magnificent stone carvings on all its walls, but one of them is a bit more special than the others. It bears the depiction of what appears to be a fully dressed astronaut in a space suit, complete with details such as the sole of his shoes. Nobody knows how he got there, or what a 20th century astronaut is doing on the walls of a 12th c. church. Ancient Astronaut, Stone Sculpture, Ufo, Architecture Antique, Creepy, Interesting History
