"I hope she’ll be a fool—that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool." Daisy can be compared to a flower. She is fragile. She is as fragile as a flower and can't make up her own mind. She is a fragile person that needs to be taken of and needs to be spoiled.
Gold is explained in many different ways in this novel. It is represented by wealth and successfulness. It is also represented as richness, being happy, and extremely valuable. "..turkeys bewitched to a dark gold." "I put my arm around Jordan's golden shoulder." "...we went about opening the rest of the windows downstairs, filling the house with grey-turning, gold-turning light."
"They were both in white.." When Nick meets Daisy and Jordan they were both wearing white. Even when Gatsby was going to meet with Daisy he wore white. This was to show the goodness in each of them. It is also to show their pureness. To show their honorably. It also portrays being morally unblemished.
"I lived in west egg, the - well, the less fashionable of the two... Across the courtesy bay the white palaces of fashionable east egg glitered along the water..." These are two very big symbols. Eggs are normally white on the outside and yellow on the inside. This symbolizing that there is deception everywhere. It represents a false purity on the outside. It also shows a rotten corruption on the inside.
"..where ashes take forms of houses and chimneys and rising smoke and finally, with a transcendent effort, of men who move dimly and already crumbling through the powdery air.." The Valley of Ashes is represented as dark. It resembles being lifeless. The fire ashes in this area represents death and depression. Also the fact that Wilson lives there shows how there is no high social status. It is also grey which represents it being neutral, dull, and not important.
“I followed him over a low whitewashed railroad fence, and we walked back a hundred yards along the road under Doctor Eckleburg’s persistent stare." This is an old billboard that is deteriorating. IT represents God. It represents him looking down and judging the American society. Watching as all their lives are being wasted over stupid things. It is also mentioned that the rims are yellow which represents that all he sees is corruptness and looking through the eyes of someone who is corrupt.
"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us." Gatsby is shown staring into this green light. This represents his hopes and dreams for the future. He also associates it with Daisy. How it will lead to the American Dream. He compares it to his love for her as well showing that there is still hope for them.
