Cause and Effect with Camila Cream; an art and literature lesson to go with the picture book 'A Bad Case of Stripes' by David Shannon. #ArtsEd Visual Art and ELA English Language Arts Lesson.
Any other teachers out there who just can't get enough of David Shannon's books? They are funny. I love them. The kids love them. We ALL laugh. And they beg me to read them over AND over again! We have been talking about character traits in the books that we read. A Bad Case of the Stripes helped my students understand the difference between how characters look on the outside and how they appear to be on the inside. Five for Friday
What - my five for Friday is actually going live on Friday? I know, shocker huh? :) 1. Last week we read a Bad Case of Stripes as our story of the week. A Bad Case of Stripes by David Shannon - Teaching Ideas

This book really lends itself to showing students that it is okay to be yourself, to like things that other people may not like, to be good at something that other people may think is strange or different and to not worry about what those people think. If you search for…
A Bad Case of Stripes...after reading the story I had my class discuss what their favorite foods were and what would happen if they couldn't eat them. They then made their self portrait and put stripes on themselves. It was a fun activity and a great way to make a connection to the book.
