Cathy McGowan was a British broadcaster and journalist, best known as a host of the popular rock music TV show, 'Ready Steady Go!' Called 'Queen of the Mods', McGowan was looked on as the symbol of the new swinging sixties teenager.

Britain's 1960s "Mod" youth culture probably had roots in London's modernist beatnik jazz culture of the late 1950s. During the1960s the mod style emerged - sharp suits, carefully styled hair, musical preference (Skaa, R&B, Kinks, Small Faces etc), antipathy to motor bikes / rockers, and of course ownership and display of a customised two-seater Innocenti Lambretta Li 125 scooter. Then there was the film "Quadrophenia".................

Simple A-line shift dresses were a hallmark of the '60s "Swinging London" look. It was all about the prints and the legs, though I had no idea, somehow, that wearing my naturally curly hair was even a possibility.
